How to tackle an oily t-zone

Firstly , for those of you that are unsure, your t-zone includes your chin, nose and forehead. Literally a T shape on your face. Now we’ve cleared that up, lets get to it.

Skin can be challenging at the best of times. Let alone when it decides to be oily and dry at the same time. Well, if you’re like me, hormone changes and hotter weather leave my t-zone like an oil slick, yet my cheeks, dry and dehydrated. Its very annoying when you have to delete yet another selfie because of your nose shine. But never fear, there are always little tricks to get that pesky skin in tip top condition. Here are few that you can try at home.

Drink plenty of water. I know I sound like a broken record but its true. When you drink water, your body automatically dishes it out to the most important parts of the body 1st, aka internal organs. Muscles get the rest and you guessed it; our skin gets the dregs. So, what do you think happens when you don’t drink enough water? Your skin isn’t getting much hydration so produces more oil. And don’t forget, water helps to flush out toxins too. So, if you get breakouts as well as an oily t-zone, water helps detox. Amazing!

Don’t try to dry the skin out. Lots of people are tempted to use purifying products which are for excessively oily or acne skins. We’ve all done it, and in most cases these products are too harsh and we’re left with not only dry, flaky skin but redness and irritation too. Never a good look.

It’s all about routine. Making sure you keep to a skin care regime where you cleanse, tone and moisturise will make all the difference. Keeping skin clean and hydrated is the 1st step to flawless skin. But don’t be fooled, too many products can overload the skin and cause lots of different skin issues. If you stick to the fundamentals your on to a winner!

Blotting. When you get a bit of oily shine throughout the day, instead of laying on more foundation, why not indulge in some blotting paper. Not only is this handbag friendly product cheap, but its also a super quick way to deal with that excess oil in super quick time. More time for food if you ask me.

Always remove make up before bed. Although your knackered, cant be bothered and can’t wait to cuddle up and dream of that new pair of jimmy choos, not taking off your make up can clog pores, making your skin produce more sebum and leave you will blackheads. So yes, that 30 seconds to remove your make up is definitely worth it.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. A common misconception is that you shouldn’t moisturise oily skin. I am in fact declaring that this is a myth. If you don’t apply moisturiser, your skin feels dry after cleansing and your brain sends signals to your skin to produce more oil. A bit counter productive don’t you think? The key is choosing the correct products. You need a moisturiser that is thinner in consistency so its just enough hydration to not over stimulate those sebaceous glands, but hydrating enough to nourish those dry cheeks.

Don’t be afraid to double mask. Clay masks are great for regulating oil production and detoxing the skin. Apply this to your oilier areas while applying a hydrating mask to the drier areas. I know what your thinking….. 2 products = twice the price. Well think of it this way, your only using half the amount of each product that you would normally be using, so it will last twice as long. Double the price but double the time. Basically it will cost you exactly the same in the long run, in fact it means less travelling to the salon. Win win.

Translucent powder is your best friend. If you don’t already set your foundation with powder, you do now! By applying powder, it soaks up all that excess oil. If I were you, I’d also change your foundation to a mineral powder foundation as this also helps in the same way. You can always add a hydrating serum if you feel like your cheeks are getting a bit dry.

An oily t-zone can be a nightmare, but if you stick to these simple steps, your on to a winner. Personally I would recommend the balancing skin care range from Eve Taylor to help regulate your skin.
